All about balloons

Balloons are not just decoration. How long they fly and keep their original look depends on many factors: material, size, temperature, humidity, sunlight and even the way they are transported. We have collected the most common questions from our customers, so that after delivery you know exactly how to handle balloons and what helps them delight you for longer.

🎈 How long do balloons fly?

Flight duration depends on the type and size of the balloon, temperature, humidity and conditions of use. We use high-quality helium and additionally treat latex balloons with Ultra Hi-Float, so that they bring you joy for as long as possible.

Latex balloons:

  • In summer on average 3–5 days, as high temperature and humidity can significantly shorten the flight time.
  • In cooler seasons considerably longer, sometimes up to several weeks, since cool and dry air helps balloons stay afloat much longer.
  • The size of the balloon also matters: up to 30 cm – about 1–3 days, from 30 cm – from 2 days up to several weeks.

Foil balloons:

  • On average 3–7 days. Foil balloons are made of a denser material and do not need Ultra Hi-Float treatment. Their flight time depends less on temperature and humidity, and above all on the size of the balloon, the quality of production and the amount of helium.

IMPORTANT: in summer, latex balloons usually fly for a shorter time than in winter.

🎈 How many helium-filled balloons should I order to fill the whole ceiling?

Depending on the ceiling area, count 10–15 balloons per square metre. For minimal ceiling coverage, we recommend 2–3 balloons per square metre.

🎈 Why do balloons fly less in summer?

Heat and high humidity are the main enemies of latex balloons. At higher temperatures latex loses its properties faster and helium escapes through the balloon walls more quickly. Direct sunlight heats the surface even further and accelerates the ageing of the material. That is why in summer it is especially important to keep balloons in a cool room, avoid sunlight and not place them near an air conditioner.

🎈 Does humidity affect balloons?

Yes. High humidity can significantly shorten the flight time of latex balloons. That is why a bathroom, a pool, a room with a humidifier or simply a very damp room is not the best place for helium-filled balloons. The best conditions are a dry room + a comfortable room temperature.

🎈 Why shouldn’t balloons be placed under an air conditioner?

Constant air flow makes balloons move, so they come into contact with each other, walls and furniture. In addition, strong air flow accelerates the ageing of latex. That is why it is better to place compositions away from the direct air flow of an air conditioner, a fan or an open window.

🎈 What is Hi-Float treatment?

Hi-Float is a special solution made for latex balloons. It is applied inside the balloon before helium filling and creates an additional protective layer that slows down the escape of helium through the latex walls. Thanks to such treatment, a balloon can stay afloat significantly longer than an untreated balloon.

🎈 How to transport balloons correctly?

Transport is one of the most important stages. To make sure the composition reaches you looking beautiful:

  • do not leave balloons in the car for a long time;
  • on hot days, cool the car interior in advance;
  • do not press balloons against doors, seats or other surfaces;
  • make sure there are no sharp objects nearby;
  • do not transport balloons longer than necessary.

After delivery:

As soon as the balloons have arrived, carefully bring them indoors and take them out of the transport packaging. Balloons need free space, a stable temperature and protection from direct sunlight.

🎈 How to store balloons correctly?

The ideal place for balloons is a dry room with a comfortable room temperature.

It is better to keep them away from:

  • radiators and heating appliances;
  • direct sunlight;
  • air conditioners and fans;
  • rooms with high humidity;
  • open windows and draughts;
  • sharp and rough surfaces.
🎈 Can balloons be kept in a bag?

Transport packaging is meant for transport, not for long-term storage. After delivery, it is better to carefully take the balloons out and place them indoors.

🎈 Can balloons be taken outside?

Yes, but their lifetime outdoors depends on the weather. Sun, wind, dust, moisture and temperature fluctuations affect balloons much more than normal indoor conditions. If you need outdoor decoration, please let us know when ordering – we will choose the most suitable materials and solutions.

🎈 Why do balloons become matt?

Latex naturally changes over time. Sun, heat, moisture, dust and constant air flow can cause the surface of the balloon to lose its original shine and become matt or slightly whitish. This is especially noticeable when balloons are placed outdoors or near a window.

🎈 Can balloons be touched?

Of course, but carefully. The less mechanical impact, the longer the composition keeps its original appearance.

Balloons do not like:

  • sharp nails;
  • jewellery and accessories;
  • rough walls;
  • sharp edges of furniture;
  • animal claws;
  • active games and constant friction.
🎈 Can children play with balloons?

We understand children’s wish to touch and play with balloons, but still it is better to leave them as decoration. Do not let children or pets pull, bite or pop balloons. Burst latex and small parts can be dangerous if swallowed or inhaled.

🎈 Latex or foil – which one to choose?

Latex balloons are light, airy and very impressive. They are ideal for garlands, clouds, ceiling decorations and large compositions. Foil balloons are bright, expressive and durable. They are perfect for numbers, letters, shapes, characters and accent decorations. If you are unsure what would suit your party better – we will be happy to help you choose.

🎈 Are your balloons safe?

Yes, of course. The balloons we use consist of 100% high-quality natural materials: depending on the type of balloon, latex or foil, and the glue used for their treatment consists only of substances permitted for use in food. We use balloons from proven and reliable manufacturers. Nevertheless, children playing with balloons should not be left unsupervised. The remains of burst balloons can cause choking or stomach irritation if swallowed.

🎈 Is helium safe?

Helium is an inert gas – it does not burn and has no smell. But there is one important rule: helium must not be inhaled. When inhaled, it displaces oxygen and can cause oxygen deficiency, so do not experiment with helium and, above all, do not let children do it.

🎈 Can you fill my balloons with helium?

We have a huge range of balloons in different shapes, colours and sizes, but if you want us to fill your own balloons with helium, we will do it. The price of helium filling depends above all on their volume.

🎈 How much does decorating our venue with balloons cost?

Send us a photo of your venue and your wishes, and we will calculate the price of the decoration.

🎈 Do you deliver ready-made balloons or do you fill them on site?

When it comes to delivering balloons and compositions presented in our online shop, in 99% of cases we deliver them ready-made.

🎈 Do you deliver balloons to the front of the house or to the door?

In 90% of cases our couriers deliver the balloons to the door. In exceptional cases, for example when we use a taxi service, we may ask you to receive the balloons from the car.

🎈 Can balloons be picked up myself?

Yes, you can use the self-pickup service from our shops and save on delivery costs. Please notify us 2–3 hours before your arrival, so that we can prepare the order.

🎈 What affects flight time?

Even the highest-quality balloon can lose its volume faster under unfavourable conditions:

  • temperature (strong heat accelerates the loss of helium, especially in latex balloons);
  • humidity (high humidity can also shorten the flight time of latex balloons);
  • direct sunlight (overheating can damage the material);
  • wind (outdoors, wind creates additional load on the balloon and increases the risk of damage);
  • surfaces (sharp, rough walls, decorative plaster and other abrasive surfaces can puncture or burst the balloon).
🎈 Why can one balloon deflate earlier than others?

Even balloons from the same batch may have a small difference in flight time. This is affected by the properties of the material, size, the amount of helium and conditions of use. If one balloon has lost its volume significantly earlier than others, do contact us. We will look into the situation.

Simple rules for a longer balloon life:

  • a comfortable room temperature;
  • no direct sunlight;
  • keep away from air conditioners and fans;
  • minimal humidity;
  • do not leave in a hot car;
  • protect from sharp and rough surfaces;
  • after delivery, place them in a suitable room right away.
